Warren Gumbley has a Master of Arts with Distinction in Anthropology
from the University of Otago. Since 1982 he has worked for Otago
University, government departments (principally the NZ Historic Places
Trust and the Department of Conservation), iwi, and commercial organisations.
Warren has extensive experience on sites of European and Maori
origin especially in archaeological recording and survey projects,
archaeological investigations, analytical research, and assessments
of archaeological values and issues. As a staff member of NZ
Historic Places Trust he has administered the archaeological
provisions of the Historic Places Act 1993.
Since leaving the NZ Historic Places Trust
in 1995 Warren has carried out a large number of archaeological
assessments and appraisals. As well, he has directed both small
and large scale archaeological investigations. Although able to
work anywhere in New Zealand, most projects to date have been in
locations in the Waikato, Hauraki/ Coromandel, the Western Bay of
Plenty, Hawke’s Bay and Wellington.
