Archaeological
sites are protected under the Historic Places Act 1993 and the Resource
Management Act 1991. During the planning stage of a development
an archaeological assessment may be required to determine the potential
impact on cultural heritage. An assessment of the effect of the
proposed work on archaeological sites will be required for an application
to the Historic Places Trust to modify, damage or destroy an archaeological
site.
We undertake archaeological assessments
to assist our clients fulfil their obligations under the Acts. An
assessment includes background research on the history of land use
in the area and a site visit to determine what archaeological sites
are present.
We have carried out archaeological assessments
throughout New Zealand and are experienced in providing advice to
clients on their options and obligations under the relevant Acts.
